Hendry Sawe, MD, MMED, MBA

Head of Emergency Medicine, Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences

Dr. Hendry R. Sawe is an Emergency Medicine Specialist, Senior Lecturer and the current Head of Emergency Medicine Department at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences in Dar es salaam, Tanzania. He is also the departmental Research and Emergency Medicine residency program director, and an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at Atrium Health in Charlotte, North Carolina, United States. Dr. Sawe is very committed to research, and development of emergency care systems in Sub-Saharan Africa. His primary area of specific research interests includes; trauma, acute complications of chronic illnesses and emergency care systems. He is associate editor for both Tanzania Medical Journal and African Journal of Emergency Medicine. Dr. Sawe is the founding president of the Emergency Medicine Association of Tanzania (EMAT), the national professional association charged with disseminating emergency care in Tanzania, and also serves board member to the African Federation for Emergency Medicine (AFEM).
